  • In addition to classroom instruction, each district elementary building has dedicated music, art and physical education teachers to ensure students receive a well-rounded experience.

  • Beginning in Fall 2025, school bus service will be offered to all district elementary students who live at least a half-mile from their school.

  • Technology is integrated to enhance learning, with resources such as Promethean Boards in classrooms, Chromebooks and laptops issued to students, and resources through Google Classrooms.

  • The Community Schools department also runs numerous programs through the course of the year in which families can take part together, including festivals at the beginning and end of each year; its Friday Night Lights, Saturday Morning Lights and Bright Lights summer programs; and many programs are offered to families through the Parent Empowerment Center, located in the middle school.

  • Not only does each elementary school offer an extended-learning time program but in fall 2025 it will be expanding to five days a week.

  • The Marist College Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) is a dropout prevention and college access program that is funded by the New York State Education Department. It has been sponsored by Marist College since 1990. Marist LPP serves 341 underrepresented students (grades 5-12) in the Poughkeepsie City School District. Marist College LPP is committed to the belief that all students can learn and should have equal access to resources.
